Republicans Are Awful: Vol. 3
A grab bag of some of the latest and most egregious examples of Republicans being awful and/or trying to force their trash-ass policies down our throats. Stick around until the end, where I explain how Choice Taxation allows us to protect ourselves and one another from Republican nonsense.
Thought I’d change things up a little this week and start off with some good-defeating-awful news.
Big win (for now):
Big ups to federal judge — and Republican(!) — William Young for his truth-telling and rare (in Republican circles) ability to call a thing a thing! Judge Young recently ruled that hundreds of NIH grants that the Trump administration had terminated must be immediately restored because:
“This represents racial discrimination and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community. That's what this is.”
Sounding gobsmacked, he added:
“I’ve never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I’ve sat on this bench now for 40 years. I’ve never seen government racial discrimination like this.”
He finished by asking (rhetorically, no doubt):
“Have we no shame?”
Win for a day:
A federal court of appeals told Tennessee state Republicans to GTFOH with their complete disregard for the separation of church and state and their relentless attempts to impose their version of Christianity on everyone’s kids (I’m paraphrasing). This was in regard to Louisiana’s bonkers law mandating that public schools must post the Ten Commandments in classrooms. Naturally, the panel blocked the state’s attempt at forced religious indoctrination because, as the ACLU succinctly put it:
“Public schools are not Sunday schools.”
But friends, I’m sad to say, the joy was short-lived — because the VERY NEXT DAY Governor Gregg Abbott signed into law a bill mandating the Ten Commandments be displayed in Texas public school classrooms.
Jefferson wept.
That’s it for (semi) good news. Let’s move on to a quick roundup of Republicans being awful:
Seemingly determined to see to it that the Earth does not outlive a single one of them, the Trump administration has fired the entire content production staff at climate.gov. As a result, the site — which supports public education on climate science — will soon stop publishing new content.
Because stupid is as MAGA does, that goofy orange weirdo is thinking about making asbestos great again.
Because they’re awful, the Republicans on the Republican-owned-and-operated Supreme Court said “fuck them trans kids!” (paraphrasing again) and upheld Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender youth:
Like so many Republicans who claim to be Christians but apparently can’t be bothered to do the reading, Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) said it’s totally cool that the epically misnamed One Big Beautiful Bill will force states to institute work requirements for Medicaid because:
“Biblically, we are supposed to work.”
Biblically, senator, we’re supposed to help the poor.
Speaking of that awful bill: Republicans added a provision to it that calls for $46.5 billion in taxpayer money to be spent building that dumb af wall that Trump said Mexico was gonna pay for.
The sheer stupidity of it all has moved from ridiculous to exhausting.
Choice Taxation, help!
If you’re not familiar with Choice Taxation, you’ll find a guide to it here. But in the briefest of terms, here’s how it works:
Under the plan, our government would end all involvement in education, healthcare, entitlement programs, and the private sector regulations that affect consumers and workers. Those critical issues would then be fully governed by four new partisan tax systems:
The Progressive Tax System
The Democrat Tax System
The Republican Tax System
The MAGA Tax System.
Each tax system would operate independently of the government and the other systems. This ensures that tax system members will be the only ones who have a say in how their tax dollars are spent and what policies and programs their dollars fund.
Here’s what that means in relation to this week’s awful:
Since Republicans will have no say in how the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems spend their tax money, those systems will be free to fund whatever research they want. This includes WOKE! SOCIALIST! DEI! research. Oh my!
They can also collaborate and run a climate website of their own — one that’s based in facts and reality and 100% free of right-wing climate deniers’ typical bullshit, propaganda, and lies.
With the government out of education, public K–12 schools will be proportionately divided among the tax systems. This means the Progressive and Democrat systems can ensure the separation of church and state is honored and that the Ten Commandments stay in churches and out of their schools.
With tax systems in charge of healthcare, the best course of treatment for a transgender child on the Left will be decided by doctors and the child’s parents. Republicans, meanwhile, will have to do as Gov. Tim Walz implored: mind their own damn business.
Tax system control of healthcare also means Republicans can’t use progressive and moderate Democrats’ healthcare dollars to fund that stupid fuckin’ wall — or attach work requirements to those systems’ healthcare programs.
Lastly, with systems in charge of private-sector regulations, both the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems will be able to ban all forms of asbestos from any buildings within their purview. This includes their schools, healthcare facilities, and any construction projects within their private sector.
This has been your regular reminder that while Republicans are awful and their policies are trash, Choice Taxation ensures we’ll no longer have to bankroll their bullshit or participate in their chaos.
And with that, I’m out.
