The Choice Taxation Case for Small Government
As we witness the devastation a Republican-controlled government can cause, it’s time we take a fresh look at the case for small government
For years, the Left has dismissed the idea of small government — and for good reason. The call for small government has always come from the Right, and the Right has seldom called for anything that benefits anyone other than millionaires, billionaires, and the wealthiest among us. But now, as the Trump regime finishes transforming our country from a democracy into a fascist kakistocracy, it’s time we built our own case for small government, one based on three simple truths:
#1 There will always be Republicans in our government.
As long as there are Republicans in America, there will always be Republicans in our government. That means there will always be a healthy supply of fascists, white nationalists, oligarchs, broligarchs, and dime-store dictators sitting in positions of power. The bigger the government, the more power those deplorables will wield; the smaller the government, the less power they’ll have.
#2 Government is only as good as the people who are running it.
When good people run our government, it improves lives, sets us up for success, and helps us pursue happiness. When Republicans run it, our government ruins lives, sets us up for failure, and sabotages our attempts at success and happiness. The bigger the government, the bigger the harm; the smaller the government, the smaller the harm.
#3 Government provides Republicans with the mechanism to control us.
Every department and agency in our government gives Republicans a way to shove their little so-called “values” down our throats and dictate how we live our lives. The bigger the government, the more opportunities they have; the smaller the government, the fewer opportunities they get.
With those three truths in mind, the question isn’t if we should downsize our government, but how. While Elon and his gang of goons down at DOGE have shown us exactly how not to do it, the revolutionary new Choice Taxation plan shows us the right way.
If you’re not familiar with the Choice Taxation plan, you can find a full explanation of how the plan works here, but for now, here’s all you need to know:
Under the plan, our government will no longer control all of our domestic policies and programs. Instead, our education and healthcare policies, entitlement programs, most of the rules and regulations governing our private-sector businesses, and the direct emergency aid we receive after natural disasters will all come from four new partisan tax systems: the Progressive Tax System, the Democrat Tax System, the Republican Tax System, and the MAGA Tax System.
With these tax systems in charge of all those critical issues, our government’s involvement ends. Once it steps back, the local, state, and federal departments and agencies that used to oversee those areas will be significantly reduced in size or dissolved entirely.
The most notable departments and agencies that would be affected include:
Departments:
Dept. of Agriculture
Dept. of Commerce
Dept. of Education
Dept. of Health & Human Services
Dept. of Housing & Urban Development
Dept. of Labor
Dept. of Transportation
Dept. of Veterans Affairs
Regulatory Agencies:
Consumer Product Safety Commission
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
National Credit Union Administration
Federal Trade Commission
National Labor Relations Board
Small Business Administration
Miscellaneous Agencies:
Employee Benefits Security Administration
Federal Emergency Management Agency
Internal Revenue Service
Social Security Administration
United States Forest Service
United States Postal Service
Once these departments and agencies have been downsized or dissolved, both the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems will be free to create, fund, and manage their own smaller versions. If they prefer, they can pool resources to create shared versions and govern them together. Whatever the arrangement, Choice Taxation ensures Republicans will have no say in their creation, funding, or management.
Now imagine the kind of education we can give our kids with a Dept. of Education run by our fellow progressives and moderates — instead of a government-controlled department run by “wholly unqualified" and shockingly ignorant billionaires like Betsy DeVos and Linda McMahon. Or the lives we can save and the medical breakthroughs we can achieve with a Dept. of Health & Human Services grounded in facts and science — rather than in whatever conspiracy theory RFK Jr. has happened upon this week.
We deserve nice things — like departments and agencies run solely by people who share our values, beliefs, and policy goals. But we’ll never get them as long as our government stays at its current size and scope. By downsizing our government, we can finally have those nice things — provided we don’t downsize the Republican way but rather we do it the right way, the Choice Taxation way.
Case closed.
