Republicans Are Awful: Vol. 1
A grab bag of some of the latest and most egregious examples of Republicans being awful and/or trying to force their trash-ass policies down our throats. But stick around til the end where I explain how Choice Taxation allows us to protect ourselves and one another from their nonsense.
Welcome to the inaugural issue of “Republicans are Awful and Their Policies are Trash!” Let’s jump right in with House Republicans passing that goofy orange weirdo’s awful One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
This bill is trash. Among other things, it would slash $1 trillion from Medicaid and SNAP, potentially leave 7.6 million Americans uninsured by 2034, and, as a result of its work requirements, cause 5.4 million people to lose their SNAP benefits. It would also add $2.3 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. All so billionaires can get massive tax cuts.
Because Republicans are awful, they held a late-night session so they could pass this trash under cover of night. Because he is awesome, and a truth teller, Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost (D) had this to say about it all:
Inject that ish straight into my veins, please and thank you!
Next up, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R).
At a 7am town hall, Ernst appeared not just surprised, but frankly a little put off by the fact that the plebs expect healthcare so they can avoid untimely and unnecessary deaths.
Because she’s apparently proud to be awful, Ernst went out of her way to make sure everyone knows she’s an asshole:
Also Joni, if that lord and savior you claim to believe in is cool with you being like this, then I don’t want anything to do with Him.
Moving on.
The Trump-approved decimation of FEMA by a reportedly drug-addled Elon Musk and his gang of goons down at DOGE, has left the agency woefully unprepared for hurricane season. That’s a problem! Because hurricane season is already here.
Finally, Trump and his minions are still waging war on Harvard.
To be fair, the Right’s war on higher education (really, all education), makes sense because, “smart people got no reason to vote conservative.” That preceding bit of quiet part out loud came from Rick Santorum, known for briefly being a thing after winning 11 states in the 2012 Republican primaries, and for this.
That clip above also talks about RFK Jr. overriding his own vaccine advisory committee of experts and announcing the CDC will no longer recommend annual COVID boosters for pregnant women and healthy children. That’s a problem! Because pregnant women who get COVID-19 are 2.4 times as likely to have a stillbirth than those who don’t have the virus. Too bad America’s self-proclaimed pro-life party is really a forced-birth party, otherwise they’d keep the guidance in place.
Also, and this isn’t really related, but people started taking a closer look at that “Make America Healthy Again” report that Jr. released last week. And, LOL, turns out it’s filled with made-up studies, errors, and missing links. The clownery!
Okay, that’s all I can stomach for now, so let’s move on to how Choice Taxation allows us to save ourselves and one another from all this awfulness.
You can find a full explanation of how the plan works here, but for now, here’s all you need to know:
Under Choice Taxation, our government would no longer control education, healthcare, and entitlement programs. Instead, these critical issues would be governed exclusively by four new partisan tax systems: the Progressive Tax System, the Democrat Tax System, the Republican Tax System, and the MAGA Tax System. Each system would operate independently of our government and one another, ensuring Republicans have no say in neither our education and healthcare policies nor our entitlement programs. Additionally, the states, rather than the federal government, would be in charge of natural disaster preparedness and recovery efforts, while the tax systems would assume responsibility for providing direct assistance to affected Americans. Finally, all federal departments and agencies previously overseeing these areas would be significantly downsized or fully eliminated.
Now here’s what all that means in relation to this week’s batch of awful:
In respect to entitlement programs, it means Republicans will no longer have a say in ours. They can hold all the late night sessions they want, but under Choice Taxation, Republicans will never be able to snatch away our Medicaid or SNAP benefits. The entitlements of Republican and MAGA Tax System members? Yes. But those of Progressive and Democrat Tax System members? Absolutely not.
Choice Taxation also ensures right-wing voters’ choices will no longer result in consequences all of us have to bear. They’re free to continue voting Joni Ernst and all the other awful Republicans (redundant) into office, but it will no longer affect our entitlements, only theirs.
Additionally, those of us in the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems will never again see our tax money used to fund healthcare for people who keep voting those assholes into power. With Choice Taxation, right-wing voters will no longer be able to drag the rest of us down with them.
As for our hurricane problem, with the states and the tax systems in charge of the duties FEMA is supposed to do, Choice Taxation ensures the next dime-store dictator who gains control of our government won’t be able to leave us stranded when hurricane season rolls in. Under the plan, the government-run FEMA would be disbanded, and each tax system would be free to design, fund, and operate its own emergency response agency. Or they can do so in conjunction with another system. For instance, the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems could combine resources and create and run an EMA (Emergency Management Agency) together. And they could do so without any interference from Republicans or the federal government.
Similarly, with the tax systems in charge of healthcare, the Dept. of Health & Human Services (HHS) will be eliminated and the Progressive and Democrat Tax Systems will be able to create their own version of the HHS. They’ll also be free to create their own (or joint-) version of the CDC and issue their own vaccine guidances to their members.
Finally, with the tax systems in charge of education, colleges and universities will no longer be government-funded. Instead, the tax systems will offer them funding, and the schools will be free to decide for themselves which system, or systems’, funding offers they accept. This means schools can reject funding from the Right’s tax systems, and in doing so, guard against having their funding held hostage by small men nursing big grudges.
And with that, I’m out.
